State Brackets and "Placers" Contest Now Up

The 2010 individual post-season is down to the final weekend. Just 32 wrestlers in each weight class are left in the state (16 each in AA and AAA).  The PIAA Wrestling Championships will be held this Thursday through Saturday at the GIANT Center in Hershey.  District 1 will be represented by 3 wrestlers in AA and 48 in AAA.  Good luck to all the state qualifiers!

Once again, we will be holding our "Guess the Placers" contests for both the AA and AAA championships.  If you haven't played in the past, these games are totally free...just pick who you think will be the 8 placers in each weight (in order), and we score each entry after the tournament.  The highest scoring entry in each contest will receive a copy of the wrestling documentary Takedowns and Falls on DVD.

Click the links below for the state brackets and contest submission pages.  We'll be providing live updates from both tournaments as we have for the past 7 years!

Council Rock South advances farthest at state duals

Council Rock South was the highest placing team at the PIAA state duals, when they advanced to the third round of consolations before falling to Central Mountain for the second time in two days. The Hawks advanced to Hershey with a win over District 12 champ LaSalle in the prelim round. In their first match in Hershey in the second round, they lost to District 6 champ Central Mountain to drop into the consolations. The first consolation match was a rematch of the D1 championship match against Boyertown, and CRS got revenge with a 42-22 win. On Saturday, the Hawks defeated Shikellamy before falling to Central Mountain again.

District champ Boyertown had a rough time in Hershey, falling in the quarterfinals to District 11 runner-up Parkland and then to CRS in the consolations to be eliminated. Council Rock North advanced to Hershey with a win over District 2 champ Hazleton. In Hershey, the Indians lost to District 7 runner-up Kiski Area and lost to Shikellamy by a point.

In AA prelims, D1 champ Octorara fell to Boiling Springs, the runner-up from District 3, by a score of 45-19.

Boyertown Claims AAA Title; Octorara Repeats in AA

The 2010 District 1 Duals are now in the history books after being delayed a few days due to the weather. In Class AAA, Boyertown won their first District 1 championship by defeating Council Rock South 38-35. In AA, Octorara won their third straight District 1 title with a 47-24 victory over Springfield Township. In the AAA third place match, Council Rock North beat West Chester Rustin 30-27.
